Our two shows last year raised £1700 for Hospice in the Weald, so a big thank you to all supporters and helpers. Many parents have used our shows to take their children to their first pony competition and have been delighted to find how it has boosted their confidence.

What is the Speldhurst Derby?

The Speldhurst Derby and Fun Show was conceived both to raise money for Hospice in the Weald, and to provide a local venue for riders. The main Derby course consists of between 15 and 18 jumps including show jumps, fixed cross country jumps and natural obstacles..

For the competent rider the classes up to 2'9" provide a unique challenge.  All winners in the Main Ring will receive a green and white sash with gold lettering.

There is clear round jumping at 3 heights starting at 1'6".  Clear Rounds, the 1'6" Mini-miniDerby, the 2' Mini-Derby and the 10 Legs Challenge will run concurrently until roughly 2:00 pm in the smaller derby arena.

Non-jumping classes include informal showing such as Hairy Pony,Prettiest Mare, etc.  Gymkhana races have been amalgamated into one timed event called the Gymkhana Marathon.  There is also a Handy Pony class and a class loosely based on Le Trec but timed.

Since its early days the Speldhurst Derby has benefited from the generosity of many local businesses, who have sponsored our best jumps and contributed to running costs. The pictures of horsemanship and enjoyment visible on our Facebook page show how worthwhile it has all been. Once again, thank you for keeping our show alive.

You can help our worthwhile cause and your name or logo will be displayed prominently. We offer deals on sponsorship of jumps, rosettes and publicity material.
